As a general rule, most children are not ready to begin formal instrumental training before the age of 6 or 7 for piano or string instruments, and most instructors will not accept students younger than 8 or 9 for other orchestral or band instruments. Before that, they tend to lack the size, stamina, and outcome-oriented commitment to make lessons a pleasurable and successful experience. Children are individuals, with a wide range of aptitude, but all children possess the ability to enjoy lifelong music making, and this ability can be greatly influenced by how we choose to approach their earliest experiences.
Kindermusik contains all of the needed elements to develop a child who is musically aware and who has the solid foundation to make lessons a natural and joyous next step. Children who grow up in Kindermusik have had chances to succeed, be nurtured and encouraged in their early creative explorations, and develop a core of music theory instilled through voice, body, and mind. Music for them is a natural part of their environment, and they have gained the language of note, rhythm, and expression to help them as they select which instrument they most wish to make their own. Many experts agree that early musical enrichment lays a foundation for musicianship which may accelerate later progress on an instrument.
Children who graduate from Kindermusik for the Young Child have a strong basis in theory, musicianship, and instrumental technique. More importantly, they have been allowed to develop the whole child through music, in a supportive and reassuring atmosphere, which lays the groundwork for a lifetime of positive outlook not only towards music learning, but towards learning in general.

Good News!! The Central Missouri Music Outreach Program has received fiscal sponsorship and is now a non-profit program! I am searching for funds as well as donations of products to get this program going! Check out the website at http://www.momusicoutreach.com/ for more information!
The first FUNDRAISER for the program will be held at Shakespeares on November 20th. Customers wshould go to either restaurant, pick-up, carry-out, or have food delivered and say they are purchasing for the fundraiser. Then at the end of the day, the CMMOP will get 15% of sales! Students--look for flyers at the studio! Please pass this info on to EVERYONE! The more money raised for the fund, the sooner children can be served (and of course the more children we can serve!).

As adults, we all know (or should know) that there will always be times in our lives that things happen, situations arise, that we have absolutely no control over - the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, even our child’s first day of preschool or first grade when it is suddenly brought home to us that those early years have passed all too quickly.
Some children breeze through the “first-day-of-school” milestone with little or no difficulty whatsoever.
Others struggle - where is this place that’s called “school”? Will I like it? Will I have friends there? How long before mom and/or dad pick me up?
Anxiety often results simply from fears of the unknown, and, while we, as adults, know that our children will probably be just fine in school, these are very real unknown concerns for many children. With life getting busier and his world expanding exponentially, a child may feel overwhelmed by all the new expectations and requirements that come his way.
If this is your child, how can you help him or her adjust to that kind of change in their world?
Consistency.
With all the changes in his/her life, staying in Kindermusik provides a badly needed consistency required to make the transition easier. In our Kindermusik classes, children learn to recognize the structure and routine of our class flow. It makes for a comfortable, secure time in their weekly schedule where they know what to expect for themselves, and come to learn what is expected of themselves, as well.
With life getting busier, and your child’s activities more independent in nature, Kindermusik is one place where the two of you can still spend precious time focused on each other.
See our Class Schedule for a day and time that works for your family.

Music and Movement
1. Play dress up and dance to fun music.
2. Play favorite music and look through old photos of the kids and family.
3. Play start and stop to music. Move when it is playing and stop when it stops. You can pass the movement and do mirroring and/or follow the leader.
4. Find sound makers around the house and play with them. Play a steady beat and simple rhythms to repeat.
5. Put on an exercise tape and do it with your child, or at least let it inspire your own movement activity!
Fun With Water
1. Take a bath with measuring spoons, cups and bowls or other toys or non-toys.
2. Fill a dishtub or shallow pan with water and give them measuring spoons, cups and bowls, turkey basters or other toys or non- toys...keep towels nearby (a great way to get the kitchen floor clean!)
3. Give a spray bottle full of water (you can add a little vinegar for shine) and a sponge, rag or towel to clean floors, walls, etc.
4. Paint with water on paper, a chalkboard, a cookie tray, the wall, the floor, etc.
Fun With Food
1. Spread peanut butter or cream cheese on a tortilla and let the kids 'decorate' with raisins, cereal, jelly....
2. Bake a cake or cookies, trail mix, or granola....kids love to empty measuring cups and spoons and mix batter and will take at least 10 minutes to lick the bowl while you are cleaning up!!
3. Sort, pattern, and/or count and graph with multi-colored foods (M&M's, Fruit Loops, or a mixture of several like Cheerios, raisins, and Goldfish).
4. Make a mixture of cornstarch and water. Get it thick enough to roll a ball between your fingers. Paint in it with a brush and tempera paints or just play in it with your hands!
Arts and Crafts
1. Make a drum or other instrument (with pots, bowls, toilet paper tubes, saran wrap, rubber bands, spatula, cans....). Decorate it!
2. Take old drawings, paintings, photos, magazine clippings and art supplies to make a book or collage (toy and flower catalogs, and kid friendly magazines are great for these!)
3. Make a doll or puppet using socks, toilet paper tubes, yarn, feathers, fabric....
4. Make a hat out of paper plates and construction paper. Decorate it!
5. Cover a styrofoam plate with aluminum foil and show your child how to etch in it with a popsicle stick.
6. Make a decorative string, like a string of flags, pictures of friends, your child's name, abc's etc.
7. Tape a large piece of butcher paper or a poster board to the wall or floor where the kids can draw or paint when they feel like it with crayons or markers.
